Completely renovated and beautifully appointed. Just bring your clothes and toiletries - everything else is provided - even candles and special Trapp Family Lodge aprons. They will do a linen/towels/other kitchen items change once during the week (complimentary). You can arrange for maid service if you want it. A large supermarket in town provides everything you'll need food/wine wise. (We'll even share with you the secret back way to Shaw's - the grocery store to avoid the traffic from skiers to and from the mountain road to Mt. Mansfield). Trapp also sells limited food items (as well as having their own amazing bakery to buy from) and there are numerous bakeries in town as well. You'll be relaxed and happy and well fed! The restaurant at The Lodge is world famous for their food and you have to make reservations in advance because they quickly become full. The dining room decor and views are extraordinary - as well as the service! The lounge/bar area is also amazing with its beautiful wood bar, roaring fire, bright seasonal plants, hor d'oeuvres table, and piano bar. But Stowe has so many fine restaurants you'll have a difficult time choosing where to go. There are several well known spa's close by - Top Notch for one - world famous and extraordinary and Stoweflake which is also amazing! We spend one day - later in the week as a family, relaxing our tired muscles from hard skiing and skating at one of the spa's. A family tradition!

This 5-star resort features a brand new fitness center with a large indoor pool and an outdoor heated Jacuzzi that lets you gaze at the Green Mountains during the day and late into the night. All 2,400 acres of this mountain resort will thrill you. The holiday decor will take your breath away it is so lovely and naturally sophisticated. There is even a special movie made about the 'real' Maria (not Julie Andrews) and The Von Trapp's that they show everyday at the Lodge in their theater, and then regular movies they feature every day - all complimentary. You can check out and take back to your chalet many board games, puzzles, etc. for the family to enjoy as well - again complimentary. You must also take a tour of the Lodge and check out all the public rooms - each with an exquisitely decorated natural tree - none over done, but all in perfect taste. The staff spends weeks arranging everything for the holidays. They have their own greenhouses and their plants and flowers are breathtaking - all run by Trapp children, grandchildren, etc. (An extraordinary family still talented and well known as singers, performers, hoteliers, foresters, skiers, etc.) One of our favorites is the bird tree with realistic looking birds nestled among the branches. The ornaments are mostly hand blown gems - Austrian style - that no one seems to disturb. Many people/families have their photo's taken in front of these trees, as they get a hotel person or a passer-by to take pictures with their own cameras. People speaking Spanish from South America, Spain, French, German, a variety of Scandinavian languages,
English from the British Isles, Canadians, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, etc. are all represented. For children and adults they offer special craft classes you can sign up for and will even provide a babysitting list for parents who want to go out on their own! There isn't anything they haven't thought of over the years, as they welcome ideas and critiques to keep improving service.

For the sport enthusiasts, opportunities abound. This was the first cross country skiing resort in the US, and it has extraordinary trails, lessons, rentals, and a special ski center with fireplaces, lounge area, etc. There is also a cabin that serves hot meals and drinks for skiers/"snowshoers". A trail starts 50' from the chalet door that connects to miles of trails throughout the property and also links to the extensive Stowe system of groomed trails, connecting other lodges and the downtown. It also connects to the wilderness back country trail from Trapp to Bolton Mountain (for the rugged back country skier). Experienced top notch cross country skier staff members regularly ski the trails to make sure everyone is all right. A pond on the property provides "old fashioned" skating opportunities, and horse driven sleigh rides with bells and blankets are also available to help take you back to a time when sleigh riding was the common way to travel over the snowy ground. A hill, steps from the Guest House is perfect for sledding and tobogganing. There is also a covered skating center in town.

The main lodge is beautifully decorated with lighted snow covered pines surrounding the entry, and evokes the charm of another time with the luxury of a modern resort/spa. The staff members are charming and very helpful. The family that inspired the Sound of Music, has created a truly unique resort that they say is a "little bit of Austria, and a lot of Vermont."
